Biloxi, MS – Social media was abuzz Tuesday after photos surfaced on Twitter appearing to show former Mississippi Senator Jefferson Davis wearing the uniform of a
“So we were just taking this tour of the Jefferson Davis Presidential Library, and all of a sudden there it was,” recalled Jeff Ashwood, 19, who was one of the students who first shared the controversial image. “This giant photo of this guy they said used to be a senator, and he was wearing a Confederate outfit!”
“The photo had some kind of weird filter on it. But you could still tell what that uniform was,” explained Jody Davis, 20, who captioned her post: “If you ever voted for this racist ass-hat, unfriend me now. I don’t care if this was back in the 60s or whatever #ItWasNeverOkay #PunchThisNazi #MississippChanging”
Other users defended the former senator and his right to embrace his southern heritage: “It’s just a costume for Christ sakes,” objected @NattyIce99 “It’s not like he’s trying to bring slavery back or anything! #cancelcancelculture”
